The Colombian maize genebank contains an important number of landrace accessions, with which maize breeding programs have created an important number of genotypes in Colombia and worldwide. In the 1950s, 1077 accessions of landraces were collected and identified; by the 1960s, the Medellin genebank reached the figure of 2078 native accessions. During the development of the LAMP project, there were 2097 criollo accessions collected for evaluation, within the same 23 racial groups initially established by Roberts et al. in 1957.
