The present research work gives an account of the cultural elements that have allowed the Embera community of La Italia, municipality of Puerto Asis, department of Putumayo, Colombia, to maintain an ethnicity as belonging to the Embera People.The content of the document allows in a first entry to know the hypothesis that framed the development of the work, wanting to provide a coherent explanation of the cultural parameters used by the Embera, in the case of the community of La Italia, to maintain and recreate their customs, beliefs, traditions, linguistic aspects. The methodology used as well as the tools, both in the literature review phase and in the field work, are also part of this stage. A discussion related to the objective of studies such as the present one is presented: What support can the communities where this type of work is carried out obtain to strengthen themselves and vindicate their difference?
