Onomastics is an area of interest to many researchers. It has been introduced in the Master’s degree course in linguistics at the Department of Amazigh Language and Culture of the Mouloud Mammeri University of Tizi-Ouzou (Algeria).Through the teaching of its different types, which are toponymy and anthroponymy, this field is becoming more visible. The course that I propose to you gathers several information gathered from readings made of various works (books, theses, dissertations and articles) which are mainly related to onomastics in Algeria. The onomastics course aims to provide the student with the theoretical and methodological notions of this field which is a recent science and a branch of lexicology that studies the origin of proper names. It is also a question of drawing the student’s attention to its different types (toponymy and anthroponymy) as well as its relationship with other disciplines such as sociology, history, anthropology, etc. This subject also makes it possible to put into practice the knowledge acquired in first graduation and to introduce the student to a new type of linguistic analysis based on collected corpora.
