Non-conformities (NC) encountered during the pre-analytical phase could influence the results of analyses and have several negative effects for the patient, such as misdiagnosis and/or delayed treatment. The aim of our work was to detect non-conformities and propose corrective actions to ensure optimal improvement of the pre-analytical phase. We carried out a descriptive observational study in the pathological anatomy and cytology laboratory at Charles Nicolle Hospital in Tunis. The study was carried out over a period of 3 years and 5 months, from January 2020 to May 27, 2023. We developed a questionnaire to assess staff knowledge of the pre-analytical phase. The main causes of NC were assessed using the Ishikawa diagram. Controlling NCs requires staff to be made aware of the importance of reporting any anomaly, so that appropriate corrective action can be taken on an ongoing basis. This action must be seen as a source of improvement and encouragement.
