Listening without Hearing

In this book, the author offers the readers an opportunity to step into a cosmogony different from the one they are used to. It is an invitation to get to know the deaf community, learn about its needs, its issues, its achievements, and its environment by means of the people who interact with it, such as family members (parents, siblings, children), different types of professionals (teachers, doctors, interpreters), and even people for whom this is the first contact with a community that is so extraordinary and, unfortunately, so unknown. The author invites the reader to join in the enterprise of writing with this community, for this community, and about it... in short, the enterprise of writing about ourselves. En esta obra, el autor presenta una oportunidad para que el lector se adentre en una cosmovision diferente a la que todos estamos habituados. Es una invitacion para conocer a la comunidad de sordos, sus necesidades, sus problemas, sus logros y su entorno, a traves de personas con quienes conviven de manera cercana, como las familias (padres, hermanos, hijos), profesionistas de todo tipo (docentes, medicos, interpretes) e incluso personas que por primera vez se acercan a este mundo tan sorprendente y tan tristemente ignorado. Invita tambien a escribir con ellos, para ellos y de ellos... en pocas palabras, escribir acerca de nosotros.
