On September 15, 1946, an extraterrestrial virus fell on Manhattan. The survivors were transformed into Meta humans and aces. Meta humans are jokers, people with physical deformities and extraordinary abilities, always alienated and harassed while aces are men and women with normal human features that develop the gifts of flying, the ability to walk through walls and read minds, to change their shape at will, to become invisible, and to stop time. Soon the Mafia and powerful forces start competing to hunt and take control of these exceptional individuals, like Ghost Girl, the Sleeper, Sharpshooter, or the powerful Four Aces, some of which are inclined to criminal activity, before doing good. El 15 de septiembre de 1946 un virus extraterrestre cayo sobre Manhattan. Los sobrevivientes quedaron convertidos en metahumanos: jokers, seres con deformidades fisicas y habilidades fuera de lo comun, siempre marginados y hostigados; o ases: hombres y mujeres de apariencia humana normal, que desarrollan el don de volar, de leer las mentes ajenas, la capacidad de atravesar paredes, de cambiar de forma a voluntad, de hacerse invisibles e incluso de detener el tiempo. Muy pronto la mafia y las grandes potencias competiran por cazar y apoderarse de personas tan excepcionales como Ghost Girl, el Durmiente, el Titiritero o los poderosos Cuatro Ases, algunos de los cuales se inclinan al crimen, antes que a hacer el bien.
