The monograph is devoted to the study of a special type of urban settlements - planted. The main object of study - Moscow Sergius Posad - a settlement that has been formed around the famous Trinity-Sergius Monastery and became planted in 1782 In his example, tracked changes taking place in the newly established cities and planted, identified specific forms of urban life. These observations and conclusions complement the existing concepts of the typology of urban settlements of the XVIII century. Sergius Posad is shown as a living functioning organism with all the features inherent in it. Its specificity is the universal influence of the country’s largest monastery virtually all aspects of life settlements - the population structure of the governing bodies, the special focus of trade and, of course, the dominant position of the architectural ensemble of the monastery in the appearance of the tenements.
