When Suetonius about 120 GN e. published the most famous of his books - Lives of the Twelve Caesars , the Roman Empire had already existed for half a century. He graduated from lasting almost twenty years of civil war ended and the era of the Roman Republic. Suetonius was not a profound thinker or an artist of genius. But he was sensitive enough to capture the requirements of his time, and is smart enough and dare to find their response to the best of all possible forms. Therefore, his book remained equally valuable literary monument for the era, described in it, and the era of writing.
