This work is in two parts of the annual report on the work of the author, and the path contains a lot of facts about the North West America. At the invitation of Nikolai Petrovich Rezanov navigator Khvostov agrees to take part in the journey to America on ships Russian American Company. According to the decree of the names naval officers could enter the service of commercial companies, without leaving military service. With the consent of Rezanova tail together with his young friend midshipman Gavrila Ivanovich Davydov (1780-1809) enter the American company and shipped to America, after having made a distant moving by land from St. Petersburg to Okhotsk. This was the first trip to America, referred to in the title of the book. Two years later, friends returned home, intending to continue to serve in the Navy, but could not resist the very favorable offer from the Russian American Company and again went overseas in May 1804.
