This work is in two parts of the annual report on the work of the author, and the path contains a lot of facts about the North West America. At the invitation of Nikolai Petrovich Rezanov navigator Khvostov agrees to take part in the journey to America on ships Russian American Company. According to the decree of the names naval officers could enter the service of commercial companies, without leaving military service. With the consent of Rezanova tail together with his young friend midshipman Gavrila Ivanovich Davydov (1780-1809) enter the American company and shipped to America, after having made a distant moving by land from St. Petersburg to Okhotsk. This was the first trip to America, referred to in the title of the book. Two years later, friends returned home, intending to continue to serve in the Navy, but could not resist the very favorable offer from the Russian American Company and again went overseas in May 1804. Met again with young people Count Rezanov that you travel to California, it passes under the command of the ship Khvostov Juno and instructs Davydov ship Perhaps. Having experienced many adventures, in 1808 Khvostov and Davydov returned to Russia, but only a year later, together tragically killed in an accident on the Neva. By this time the light came just eight sheets of the first part of Davydov notes, and the second and did was in the rough notes and letters to friends. Later manuscripts for publication compiled by Vice Admiral Shishkov, author of the foreword.
