La Soeur du Soleil, d'abord publie sous le titre de L'Usurpateur, est un roman historique qui prend place a une periode charniere de l'histoire du Japon, au tout debut du XVIIe siecle, a la fin de la Periode Sengoku (periode des Royaumes Combattants), au moment de l'achevement de l'unification du Japon par Tokugawa Ieyasu, premier Shogun de la dynastie hereditaire qui commenca en 1603 et perdura jusqu'en 1867, et qui recouvre la brillante periode d'Edo.
Ce roman raconte, et interprete assez librement, la maniere, dont le ruse Ieyasu (Hieyas dans le roman) s'est empare du pouvoir, spoliant le jeune Hideyori (Fide Yori dans le roman) de son heritage…
