Eigentlich heisst sie Roswitha; aber ich sage immer ‘Appelschnut’. Man darf diesen Namen nicht ins Hochdeutsche ubersetzen; ‘Apfelschnauze’ klingt roh, klingt grasslich; ‘Schnauze’ hat geradezu etwas Berlinerisches. ‘Schnauzerl’, ‘Schnauzchen’ kame der Sache schon naher, deckt sie aber nur zum Teil. ‘Schnut’ umfasst namlich nicht nur Mund und Nase, sondern so ein ganzes kleines Gesichtchen, das man noch ganz und gar in eine Hand nehmen kann. Auf humoristische Art und Weise erzahlt Otto Ernst (1862-1926) die Geschichte seiner Tochter, eines aussergewoehnlichen Madchens, das die kleinen und grossen Abenteuer des Lebens meistert. Liebevoll wird sie von ihrem Vater nur Appelschnut genannt.
