Aber auch die Abbesche Invariante, die Abbesche Sinusbedingung, das Abbe-Refraktometer, das Abbesche Komparatorprinzip oder das Abbe-Verfahren tragen seinen Namen: Ernst Abbe (1840-1905) war Physiker, Statistiker, Optiker, Industrieller und Sozialreformer. Mit Carl Zeiss und Otto Schott entwickelte Abbe die Grundlagen der modernen Optik und entwickelte viele optische Instrumente.
