Im vorliegenden Buch steht das Stichprobenproblem bei allgemeinen Bevoelkerungsumfragen in der empirischen Sozialforschung im Vordergrund. Betrachtet werden soll die forschungssoziologische und forschungshistorische Art. Auf diese Weise wird eine kritische Auseinandersetzung ermoeglicht und sowohl Schwachstellen aufgedeckt als auch Loesungsvorschlage unterbreitet. Die forschungshistorische Sichtweise foerdert dabei das Verstandnis des gegenwartigen Status quo und hilft, Entwicklungstendenzen der aktuellen Wissenschaftspraxis abzuschatzen. Schlussendlich kann so das Konzept der reprasentativen Zufallsstichprobe hinterfragt und die Wissenschaftspraxis bezuglich der Umsetzung ihrer Ideale beurteilt werden.
