Agyptische Mumienmasken in Wurzburg

English description: The department of ancient art in the Martin von Wagner Museum in Wurzburg houses a most remarkable collection of twelve mummy masks that was donated by the private collector Friedrich Gutte. The major part of these masks comes from the Fayum area in Egypt and dates to the late Ptolemaic and early Roman epochs. This volume presents the masks which are kept in Wurzburg for the first time in photographs alongside chapters explaining the cultural context: the religious significance of this object type for the ancient Egyptians, the dating and provenance through comparison with masks in other collections, and finally the mask’s iconographic programme. German description: Die Antikensammlung des Martin von Wagner-Museums in Wurzburg besitzt durch die Schenkung des Privatsammlers Friedrich Gutte eine sehr beachtliche Sammlung von zwolf Mumienmasken, von denen die meisten aus dem spatptolemaischen bis fruhkaiserzeitlichen Fayum stammen. In diesem Band werden die in Wurzburg aufbewahrten Masken erstmals in Abbildung veroffentlicht. Ausserdem wird die religiose Bedeutung der Masken erlautert, die Datierung und Herkunft aufgrund des Vergleiches mit Stucken in anderen Sammlungen ausfuhrlich diskutiert und schliesslich das Bildprogramm der Wurzburger Masken erklart.
