Metropole 5: Kosmopolis: IBA HAMBURG Stadt neu bauen

Globalisation not only involves the worldwide networking of finance and trade; a new international urban society is also emerging: Cosmopolis. The Internationale Bauausstellung (International Building Exhibition) IBA Hamburg aims to adapt the city to the needs of the Cosmopolis and to make room for it to unfold. This book addresses the structures of Cosmopolis communities; in which they act, move, reside and where they are at home. The central question is whether and how architecture and urban design can be used to overcome the social and cultural barriers of urban societies in the face of demographic change.
