To our mind things are in chaos, for, though we notice that they are, superficially, and, we presume, fundamentally in order, still our minds are restless, because we cannot fully comprehend this order. We may grasp its main outlines, but we are at a loss when we come to examine it more closely, and the farther we go into it, the more we find ourselves faced by a mystery.
