Die schwarze Spinne ist Albert Bitzius (1797-1854) wohl beruhmtestes Werk. Als schweizer Pfarrer und Schriftsteller veroeffentlichte Bitzius unter dem Pseudonym Jeremias Gotthelf mehrer Romane, Erzahlungen, und Aufsatze. In der hiervorliegenden Novelle sind zwei Binnenerzahlungen eingebettet, in beiden Erzahlungen tritt eine teuflische, schwarze, todbringende Spinne auf. In dieser gleichnishaften Erzahlung verarbeitet Pfarrer Bitzius christlich-humanistische Vorstellungen von Gut und Boese.
