B. G. Teubner Verlagsgesellschaft Stuttgart- Leipzig 1991 The present volume is based on lectures with the title Introduction to analytical mechanics given by FELIX KLEIN in the winter term 1886/87. KLEIN, who was also interested in physics, was able in his fIrst year in G6ttingen to achieve his long- standing ambition to give such a course. Its content corresponds to a course for be- ginners in the fIeld of theoretical mechanics. The text also impresses us today by its modem and clear representation and the many examples discussed. The manu- script of KLEIN and above all the notes of his pupil F. POCKELS serve as the basis for this volume.
