Auf der Grundlage der Allgemeinen Bevoelkerungsumfrage der Sozialwissenschaften (ALLBUS) 1998 wird in den Beitragen des Bandes ein breites Spektrum unterschiedlicher Formen politischer Beteiligung analysiert: von der Teilnahme an Wahlen uber parteibezogene Partizipation und politisches Protestverhalten bis zu gewalttatigen politischen Handlungen.
Verschiedene theoretische Modelle zur Erklarung politischer Partizipation werden dabei herangezogen. Daneben wird in einzelnen Beitragen gezielt die Rolle spezifischer Determinanten politischer Beteiligung - wie z.B. der Mediennutzung - untersucht.
Wie lasst sich die Beteiligung an Wahlen erklaren, wenn doch die eigene Stimme kaum einen Einfluss auf den Wahlausgang hat? Was sind die Ursachen fur das geringere politische Engagement von Frauen im Vergleich zu Mannern? Welche Rolle spielt die Mitgliedschaft in Organisationen und Vereinen fur das politische Teilnahmeverhalten?
