Das Buch verdeutlicht dem Leser, wie die Mengenzusammenhange von Produktionsprozessen und deren zeitliche Struktur erfasst und formal durch Modelle abgebildet werden konnen. Durch die Entwicklung einer dynamischen Aktivitatsanalyse gelingt die Systematisierung unterschiedlicher Modellansatze, so dass eine dynamische Produktionstheorie mit einheitlicher Grundlage entsteht. Insbesondere werden dynamische Modelle der Produktion zur technischen Entwicklung, dynamische Input-Output-Modelle, dynamische Produktionsmodelle auf systemtheoretischer Grundlage und dynamische Produktionskorrespondenzen analysiert. Die Moglichkeiten zur praktischen Anwendung der dynamischen Modelle im Rahmen der Produktionsplanung werden unter anderem fur die programmorientierte Bedarfsauflosung demonstriert.
