With their large sculpture, Tiger & Turtle-Magic Mountain, Heike Mutter and Ulrich Genth have created an impressive, spectacular landmark for the city of Duisburg. At the same time, the work represents a masterful achievement in the art of engineering. Its curving form is a reference to the classic roller coaster. From close up, the visitor is disarmingly surprised by the sculpture: its winding pathways are made of differently sloped stairs, which can be explored on foot. Meanwhile, the visitor can enjoy a panoramic view of the artificial landscape of the western Ruhr District. Tiger & Turtle is the prize-winning design from an international competition for a landmark for the Heinrich Hildebrand Heights. Along with the winning design, the catalogue also presents the very interesting submissions by artists Rita McBride, Michael Sailstorfer, and Stephen Craig.
