Der Band enthalt zwei umfangreichere Studien aus dem Nachlass des 2014 verstorbenen Autors. Die eine, verfasst 1993, befasst sich mit Joseph von Eichendorffs Roman Ahnung und Gegenwart (1815), die andere, etwa 2003 geschrieben, mit Otto Weiningers Buch Geschlecht und Charakter (1903). In beiden Studien geht Georg Gimpl dem Einfluss der jeweils zeitgenoessischen Malerei auf die Texte und ihrer Einbettung in die Philosophie ihrer Zeit nach.
