Gustave Flaubert veroeffentlichte ‘Madame Bovary’ 1856/1857. Er schuf mit seinem Roman Weltliteratur und zugleich ein Sittengemalde seiner Zeit. Der Autor musste sich hierfur vor Gericht verantworten wegen ‘Verstosses gegen die guten Sitten’. Der Roman beruht allerdings auf einem realen Geschehen, welches Flaubert bereits 1848 einem Zeitungsbericht entnahm.
