Margarete Barainsky wurde 1927 in Schlesien geboren. Sie stammt aus einer Musikerfamilie. 1945 fluchtete sie mit ihren Eltern aus Schlesien, 1947 heiratete sie in Berlin, 1954 musste sie mit ihrem Mann das damalige Ostberlin verlassen. In diesem autobiografischen Roman schildert die Autorin eindrucksvoll ihre von Krieg und Umbruchen gepragten Erfahrungen aus der Zeit zwischen 1934 und 1954. Seit 1971 lebt die Autorin in Vlotho.
