Der philosophische Dialog Rameaus Neffe, an dem Diderot in den Jahren 1761 bis 1774 gearbeitet hatte, wurde zu Lebzeiten des Autors nicht veroeffentlicht und schien zunachst verschollen. Das Werk erschien erst 1805 in Deutschland in einer UEbertzung von Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. Das Gesprach zwischen Er (Lui) und Ich (Moi) wahrend eines Besuchs m Cafe de la Regance fuhrt vom humorvollen Geplanklel zu philosophischen und kulturkritischen Grundfragen.
