Nach dem historischen Vorbild des Lamoral von Egmond schrieb Johann Wolfgang von Goethe sein Drama uber Egmont, welches nach 12-jahriger Bearbeitung erst 1887 abgeschlossen und 1888 gedruckt wurde. Das Drama spielt in den sechziger Jahren des 16. Jahrhunderts in Brussel kurz vor dem Beginn des Achzigjahrigen Krieges.
