Der Erzahler stellt eine Paaridylle vor, die jah gestoert wird durch zwei hinzukommende Menschen. - Charlotte und Eduard fuhren ein scheinbar gluckliches, zuruckgezogenes Leben auf Ihrem Landgut. Doch es gibt Zuwachs auf dem Gut. Eduard nimmt seinen in Not geratenen Freund Otto auf, Charlotte ihre verarmte Nichte Ottilie. Die neue Situation erzeugt neue Beziehungen, neue Gefuhle und eben auch neue Konflikte.
