Hauffs Marchen erschienen in den Jahren 1825 bis 1828 in Almanachform; d.h als jahrlich erscheinende und thematisch abgegrenzte Erzahlungen, die sich jeweils innerhalb einer Rahmenhandlung bewegen. Der erste Marchen-Almanach auf das Jahr 1826 ist betitelt mit Die Karawane und enthalt u.a. die Geschichten vom Kalif Storch und vom kleinen Muck. Der zweite Marchen-Almanach auf das Jahr 1827 hat den Titel ‘Der Scheik von Allessandria und seine Sklaven’. Der dritte Marchen-Almanach auf der Jahr 1828 enthalt u.a. das Marchen ‘Das kalte Herz’ und ist uberschrieben mit dem Titel ‘Das Wirtshaus im Spessart’.
