This Special Issue of Molecules is dedicated to Prof. Rui Fausto in recognition of his influential contributions to the photochemistry of organic molecules and matrix-isolated reactive intermediates. Prof. Rui Fausto is one of the pioneers in applying vibrational excitation to induce chemical reactivity in organic molecules under matrix isolation, and his research in infrared and ultraviolet-induced photochemistry has significantly advanced our understanding of organic compound reactivity. His more recent work on quantum mechanical tunneling has contributed significantly to the reflourishing of this field. Prof. Fausto is also a dedicated mentor, supporting and inspiring young scientists, and besides science, his interests include music and human rights advocacy; his intellectual and humanitarian outlooks enrich his legacy.
This Special Issue comprises 12 articles that span a broad range of interests within the fields central to the scientific activity of Prof. Rui Fausto. We gratefully acknowledge the contributions of all colleagues and reviewers to this reprint celebrating Prof. Fausto's lasting impact.
