Restructuring The Italian Soccer League

Seminar paper from the year 2014 in the subject Sport - Sport Economics, Sport Management, grade: 1,0, University of Tubingen (Institut fur Sportwissenschaft), course: Seminar: International Cases in the Business of Sport, language: English, abstract: With several clubs announcing big losses or having huge depts, and even bancruptcies of many clubs, the Italian league is facing a financial crisis. Also, it is lacking international on-pitch succes, as only one club in the past seven years was able to get to the UEFA Champions League final. An alarming development, regarding the Italian victories in the 1980s, 1990s and even at the begin of the new millenium. Financial trouble, missing international succes, star players leaving the league and deficits in infrastructure contribute to a bad overall condition, the Italian League is in. The question and task is now, how to solve this misery by structural interventions as a league organising body. In order to find the right measures, it will firstly be taken a look at the problems causing this situation. Having examined, what led to this calamity, several methods and ideas to improve the current situation will be presented and discussed.
