Natural gas reserves are limited as oil reserves and requires a shift towards synthetic fuel such as Synthetic Natural Gas (SNG) is required which can contribute towards cleaner environment. Conventional coal gasification can be replaced with biomass in order to produce synthetic natural gas (SNG). Synthetic natural gas can be used in existing natural gas distribution network, transport, domestic and industrial sector with almost no or little modifications. This study evaluates the integration of synthetic natural gas (SNG) production using biomass gasification with combined heat and power plant (CHP). Different performance indicators are used for comparison and different processes of carbon conversion, energy efficiencies, economic feasibility and commercial availability of technologies are evaluated. The results obtained by integration show yield of synthetic natural gas production about 77.4% on lower heating value basis as in the reference case of SNG production from 100 MW biomass (dried) input with power cycle and district heating.
