The present study is an attempt to estimate pollution status and to suggest suitable measures to restore Krishna river water quality for the stretch Sangli to Haripur .The distance of the study stretch is approximately 4.2 km. This study was conducted for the period of eight months from September 2008 to April 2009. The guidelines published by Central Pollution Control Board in 2007 were adopted for selection of monitoring station and collection of water samples. The guidelines given by American Public Health Association were adopted for analysis of water samples. For the assessment of the water quality parameters pH, DO, BOD, COD and Chlorides were analyzed in the study. The result indicates that except for monsoon season, the river water quality was deteriorated in the study stretch.The exiting treatment facility for waste water is found inadequate. The suggested pollution control measures in the present study are essential to improve the river water quality in the stretch, Sangli to Haripur.
