Collocations are an inherent part of both the English and Czech lexicon. Unlike native speakers, learners of English language have to learn these repeatedly occurring word combinations by heart. The work deals with various definitions describing this lexical phenomenon. In the research part, this work pays attention to lexical collocations, especially to erroneously produced collocations gathered from essays written by Czech learners of English. An attempt to explain the cause leading to error is made with each incorrect sample.
