Strategies for the Capture and Translocation of Wildlife in Zimbabwe

Zimbabwe, formerly Rhodesia, has led the world with its innovative approaches to wildlife management, no less valid for game capture. From the advent of Operation Noah on Lake Kariba, attempting to rescue animals from the rising waters, the art and science of game capture emerged from humble beginnings. There was scant knowledge available worldwide wide and capture success fraught with significant mortalities. Through trial and error, strategies, equipment, and the potential for chemical restraint emerged, providing technology to move thousands of animals, reducing mortality significantly below 2%, efficiently.
