The purpose of this study was to study the effects of supplier management on procurement performance in public institutions. In order to achieve the purpose of this study, three specific research objectives were addressed that is: level of communication, tender awarding criteria and supplier payment. The research design was explanatory cross sectional survey involving both qualitative and quantitative research methodology. The target population for this study comprised of 35 Moi University procurement staff and 154 registered suppliers during the 2006/2007 and 2007/2008 financial years. The data was analyzed using the descriptive statistics (mean, cross tabulation) and inferential statistics (multiple regressions). The results of Multiple Regressions Analysis showed that there is a relationship between supplier management components and procurement performance. Specifically level of communication has a beta ( ) value of 0.063 which shows a positive cause effect relationship though not very significant. Secondly the tender award criterion has a beta ( ) value of 0.521, meaning that it positively and significantly affects procurement performance in public institutions.
