Im Rahmen der vorliegenden Arbeit erfolgt vor dem Hintergrund der Feld- und Kapitaltheorie Bourdieus eine theoretisch informierte und empirisch kontrollierte Vermessung der Juniorprofessorenschaft. Dabei prasentiert Lena M. Zimmer u. a. belastbare Erkenntnisse zu ihrem beruflichen Verbleib und ihrer soziodemografischen Zusammensetzung. Im Vordergrund der empirischen Arbeit steht jedoch vor allem die Identifikation von Erfolgsfaktoren bei der Berufung der Juniorprofessorinnen und Juniorprofessoren auf eine Lebenszeitprofessur. Neben dem Einfluss wissenschaftlichen Kapitals, wie Publikationen, uberpruft die Autorin u. a. auch Effekte ausgehend vom Geschlecht und der sozialen Herkunft.
