Xun Luo unternimmt eine Reflexion der Lernstilforschung und ihrer Anwendung im interkulturellen Kontext. Am Beispiel deutscher und chinesischer Studierender entwickelt er ein Prototyp-Konzept, welches als ein alternativer Zugang zur Untersuchung sowie Anwendung von Lernstilen fungiert. Dabei greift er Defizite bestehender Lernstiltheorien und -ansatze auf, um Lernunterschiede zwischen Kulturen realitatsnah bzw. praxistauglich zu beschreiben. Luo knupft mit seiner Dissertation an aktuelle Diskussionen uber die Lernstilforschung an, die ursprunglich aus psychologischen Diskursen im angelsachsischen Raum resultieren und seitdem immer noch stark davon gepragt sind.
