1884 hielt Heinrich Hertz an der Universitat Kiel eine Vorlesung uber Moderne Anschauungen uber die Constitution der Materie. Die geplante Veroeffentlichung als Buch wurde nicht realisiert, bis A. Foelsing vor kurzem auf das Manuskript stiess. Darin behandelt Hertz im ersten Teil erkenntnistheoretische Fragen der Physik, liefert im zweiten Teil ein entschiedenes Pladoyer zugunsten der Maxwellschen Theorie und befasst sich im dritten Teil mit Problemen der Mechanik und Atomistik.
