Volume 52 consists of contributions that include a close reading of German-language texts that range from a focus on Africa, to contributions that explore a European context. In the section "Africa schreiben" a number of works are examined that, although written in German, have reference to Africa as socio-political or cultural construct. The authors use different theoretical perspectives to illuminate the ways in which these constructs and its reception have historical underpinnings. The general contributions shift the focus to Europe in its examination of historical and modern works of fiction. Intertextuality, memory and historical perspectives are used for a close reading of selected texts. Three contributions conclude the section, with a focus on the teaching of DaF in different social contexts.
