The first part conveys differing perspectives of Africa in German literature: from colonial German youth and adventure literature to Omaheke as a place of war, from apartheid analogies in German media texts to the life and work of Leontine Sagan in Europe and South Africa. Further contributions present critical readings of Hans Christoph Buch’s Sansibar Blues and of the almost unknown text Die Virusepidemie in Sudafrika by Friedrich Durrenmatt. The second part presents general contributions on Goethe’s Iphigenie auf Tauris , Christoph Schlingensief’s Viennese art action Container in the year 2000, Benjamin von Stuckrad-Barre’s novel Panikherz , Christian Kracht’s Die Toten and Thea Dorn’s play Marleni. Preu sche Diven blond wie Stahl . An investigation of the neglected dimension of corporeality in intercultural foreign language learning and an interview with the Austrian author Gerhild Steinbuch conclude the volume.
