In diesem Band werden neue Ergebnisse vorgestellt, die anlasslich des 700. Geburtstages Giovanni Boccaccios 2013 im interdisziplinaren Dialog zwischen Literaturwissenschaftlern, Historikern, Sozial- und Medienwissenschaftlern in Marburg ausgetauscht wurden. Vor allem sein Hauptwerk in Volgare, das Decameron (Zehntagewerk, eine geistreiche Anspielung auf das Hexameron, das Sechstagewerk der Schoepfungsgeschichte), hat die Literatur und Kunst Europas nachhaltig beeinflusst. Gepragt von zwei Kulturen, dem kommunalen Leben der Republik Florenz und der franzoesischen Hofkultur Neapels, gelingt es Boccaccio, zuvor getrennte Welten, antike Philosophie und hoefische Liebe, lateinische und volkssprachliche Diskurse zusammenzufuhren.
