Il y a trois points de departs thematiques. Le premier est la performativite. Quels types d'actes performatifs (linguistique, ethnique, sexuel, etc.) sont mis au centre dans le roman contemporain ? Le conflit signifiant est le deuxieme point de depart. Au lieu d'etudier l'assimilation de l’(im)migrant dans la culture majoritaire, faudrait-il plutot etudier les conflits tels que ceux-ci se manifestent aujourd'hui ? Troisiemement, il y a la creolisation. Si le monde se creolise, cela veut dire, entre autres, que le local fera partie du global et que le global, a son tour, fera partie du local.

The articles collected in this volume are written by researchers in contemporary Quebec literature and in Scandinavian and Finnish literature. There are three different thematic starting points. The first one is the question of performativity. What kinds of performative acts (linguistic, ethnic, sexual, etc.) are placed at the centre in the contemporary novel? Meaningful conflicts is the second one. Instead of studying the question of the possible assimilation of the (im)migrant into majority culture, should one rather start by studying conflicts as they occur today? Third, there is creolization. If the world is creolized, this means for example that the local will be part of the global and that the global will become part of the local.
