Der 66. Brief ist ein Meilenstein innhalb von Senecas Epistelcorpus. Mit ihm beginnt eine vertiefte Guterdiskussion, die sich uber zahlreiche weitere Briefe hinzieht. In seinem Kommentar ist der Autor bestrebt, den Text aus dem gesamten philosophischen Werk Senecas heraus zu erschliessen, dabei wichtige Begriffe zu klaren, die Argumentationsstruktur des Briefes aufzudecken und auf stilistische Besonderheiten hinzuweisen. Andere philosophische Autoren wie Cicero, Zenon, Chrysipp und Epiktet, Platon und Aristoteles wurden in die Untersuchung einbezogen. Einiges Licht fallt insbesondere auf Senecas ambivalentes Verhaltnis zu Epikur.
