Diese Untersuchung ist eine kritische Darstellung der Bedeutungstheorie Donald Davidsons und geht der Frage nach, ob Davidsons fruhe Theorie mit seiner spaten in Einklang steht. Nicht-woertliche Sprachverwendung bildet dabei den Hauptteil der Untersuchung. Es wird argumentiert, dass Davidsons Forderung, das Wissen einer kompetenten Sprecherin in Form einer endlichen Theorie anzugeben, nicht erfullbar ist und dass sprachliche Konventionen - entgegen Davidsons Behauptung - notwendig fur das Erstellen einer Interpretationstheorie sind und in versteckter Weise auch in seiner Theorie enthalten sind. Daraus ergibt sich, dass von einem Einklang zwischen der fruhen und spaten Theorie nicht die Rede sein kann.
