George Wronkow, in den 20er und 30er Jahren des letzten Jahrhunderts Journalist beim Berliner Mosse-Verlag, musste Deutschland im Fruhjahr 1933 verlassen und fluchtete uber Danemark nach Frankreich, bevor er 1941 in die USA emigrierte. In seiner Autobiographie schildert er pointiert sowohl die eigene als auch die zeitgeschichtliche Entwicklung vom Kaiserreich zum Nationalsozialismus. Eindrucksvoll beschreibt er das Leben im Pariser Exil, wo er unter anderem beim Pariser Tageblatt und als Rundfunkjournalist tatig war.
