Die vierte stadtsoziologische Untersuchung der 1938 gegrundeten Stadt Wolfsburg fuhrt eine in Deutschland einmalige Langzeituntersuchung fort. Im Mittelpunkt der neuen Studie steht die Stadtentwicklungsphase, in der in Wolfsburg versucht wurde, uber den Bau erlebnisorientierter Grossprojekte den Charakter und das Image der Stadt neu zu bestimmen. In keiner anderen Stadt ist dieser ‘Festivalisierungsansatz’ einerseits so konsequent und insofern auch paradigmatisch, andererseits aber auch so ortsspezifisch verfolgt worden. Die Untersuchung beschaftigt sich mit den stadtkulturellen Auswirkungen dieser ‘erlebnisorientierten’ Stadtentwicklungspolitik fur die Integration der Bewohnerschaft, die Urbanitat der Stadt und die lokale Demokratie.
