Die Studie stellt Ergebnisse aus einem langjahrigen Forschungsprojekt zur schulischen politischen Bildung in Ostdeutschland vor. Im Mittelpunkt stehen die Probleme und Schwierigkeiten von Demokratie-Lernen im alltaglichen Gemeinschaftskundeunterricht in Ostdeutschland. Dabei werden auch Unterschiede der politischen Bildung in Ostdeutschland einerseits und Westdeutschland andererseits erkennbar. Besonders auffallend sind die Schwierigkeiten, politische Bildung als kritisch-demokratischen Prozess zu entfalten und eine kommunikative Streit-, Konflikt-, und Dialogkultur im Unterricht zu entwickeln.
