Der Fall Schwerte hat internationales Aufsehen erregt: Im April 1995 erklarte der ehemalige Germanistik-Professor und Rektor der RWTH Aachen Hans Schwerte, dass er am Ende des Zweiten Weltkriegs seinen Namen gewechselt habe und im NS-Regime unter seinem ersten Namen Hans Ernst Schneider an fuhrender Stelle im SS-Ahnenerbe tatig gewesen sei. - Der Band stellt den Fall in mehrere Kontexte: a) den Kontext von Publizisten und Propagandisten im NS-Regime, b) den Kontext des Elitenwechsels in der fruhen Bundesrepublik, c) den Kontext der Geschichte der Germanistik, d) den Kontext von Berufungsvorgangen, e) den Kontext anderer belasteter Wissenschaftler nach 1945.
