Die beiden Kunstlerromane ‘Doktor Faustus’ von Thomas Mann und ‘Die Niederschrift des Gustav Anias Horn’ von Hans Henny Jahnn, die annahernd zeitgleich entstanden sind, weisen vielfache Entsprechungen und Beruhrungspunkte im thematischen wie im kompositionellen Gefuge auf. Der Schwerpunkt des Vergleichs, die Affinitat der beiden Romane zur Musik, ist in dieser Studie eingebettet in einen problemgeschichtlichen Ansatz: Die historische Verortung der musikasthetischen Anschauungen in den Romanen und deren Funktion fur die Werke selbst werden in das Spannungsverhaltnis von Mythos und Moderne, die Dialektik der Aufklarung, gestellt.
