English summary: Children were frequently depicted in celebratory and cultic scenes in Attic art from the 6th to the 4th century BCE. Their graphic characterization oriented itself to the prevalent model of their prospective gender roles and to their place within the social structure. Martina Seifert shows the coded order behind the construction of the images and illuminates the important role of the communities’ oikos and phratries (household and kinfolk) as institutions of socialization for the adolescents. The multifaceted investigation of visual imagery and its developments makes comprehensible the shifts in theme and motif and develops a new perspective for the meaning of the images.
